Stay Alert. Stay Safe. Stay Cyber Smart ! 

Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur, successfully organised an awareness programme on Cyber Crime & Digital Safety – “Think Before You Click!!!” at the Albert Einstein Seminar Hall, aimed at sensitising the college community to the growing risks of cybercrime, online fraud and digital threats.
The programme was graced by SI Aloke Majumder and SI Bijoy Dalapati, Cyber Crime Department, Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC), Paschim Bardhaman, who served as the guest speakers. The event was attended by Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay S. Pawar, Principal, BCREC; Prof. (Dr.) K. M. Hosain, Vice Principal; Dr. Arunava Mookherjee, Presiding Officer, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), BCREC; members of the BCREC Society; Heads of Departments; faculty members, staff and students.
In his welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay S. Pawar highlighted the growing importance of data and cybersecurity in today's digital age. Prof. (Dr.) K. M. Hosain emphasised the indispensable role of the internet in education, communication and everyday life, while stressing the need for responsible and safe digital practices. Dr. Arunava Mookherjee spoke about the role of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as an important institutional mechanism and highlighted the significance of awareness regarding sexual harassment, cybercrime and responsible digital behaviour.
During the interactive session, SI Aloke Majumder and SI Bijoy Dalapati provided valuable insights into various forms of cybercrime and practical ways to stay protected online. The session covered critical issues including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), cyber grooming, online exploitation, non-consensual sharing of intimate images, suspicious links, online fraud and protection of personal information.
Participants were also made aware of important reporting and support mechanisms, including StopNCII.org, Take It Down, and the Government of India's National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal – cybercrime.gov.in.
The programme reinforced a crucial message for every digital user: Think before you click, verify before you trust, and report before it is too late. The initiative undertaken by the ICC, BCREC, reflects Dr. B. C. Roy Engineering College's continued commitment to promoting Cyber Security, Digital Awareness, Personal safety and Responsible online practices among its students and the wider college community.
